Our 2012 Disney Trip: Port Orleans

Back in May once Jordan’s school let out, we took a trip to Disney.  I had to work through Jordan’s spring break due to my ill-fated Australian project, so we went in May for about 4 days.  After Laura’s worst plane ride ever (screaming baby two rows up for 2.5 hours), we ended up at Port Orleans and started our trip.  Here are some of the photos!

Port Orleans

Here is how Disney describes the Port Orleans French Quarter:

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is inspired by the romance and pageantry of the historic French Quarter in New Orleans, and where every day is a celebration. Step through a wrought-iron portal into an alluring world of delicious Cajun food, jazz music and dazzling parades.

Stroll cobblestone walkways and gaze down from balconies with delicate railings as you listen to the smooth jazz backdrop and breathe in the sweet smell of magnolia blossoms in the air. As you pass by the ornate street signs, antique gas lampposts and fountains, you may just feel like you’ve been transported to The Big Easy.

The comfortable Guest rooms are situated along landscaped lanes, with some overlooking the Sassagoula River. You’ll find the Main Lobby in the resort’s central building, The Mint, as well as a food court that serves American and Creole food, live entertainment on select nights at Scat Cat’s Lounge and Jackson Square Gifts & Desires.

The lushly landscaped mile-long walking path along the Sassagoula River is great for a stroll to unwind after a busy day. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is just a short walk down river where you can dine or take a horse-drawn carriage ride. The scenic journey feels like you’re leaving the big city on your way to the rural countryside. Just try not to startle any of the ducks or bunny rabbits that call the area home!

Port Orleans is organized like the French Quarter in New Orleans, sans the drunks…and the streets all have French names. Rue D’Baga was my favorite, and the girls kindly posed for this picture on our way to a park for the day.

They did a nice job planting gardens that look like New Orelans.  Here are a few shots.

Our room was right on the canal that connects Epcot to Port Orleans…it was nice to come back at night on the boat.  Here are some shots of the canal area:
