August 2011 DUKW Ride
We took a ride on a WWII vintage vehicle called a DUKW, essentially a GMC truck that converted to a boat. It was used in amphibious landings on beaches by the Allies in WWII and Korea, and now carries tourists around the Wisconsin Dells. Here is some information on the DUKW. It really was fun to ride in a truck that converted into a boat!
We went into the Wisconsin River at the Wisconsin Dells, a very interesting rock formation that the river cut through. In the early 20th century, a man-made lake called Lake Delton was created in the area to use for recreational activity. The DUKW ride goes onto the lake and you get a great view of the dam and retaining wall, which completely washed away in 2008.
Now for the pictures!
